Commentary | Brigitta Raauwers (or Rauwert) was the daughter of Claes Jacobsz. Rauwert and Baertge Willemsr. van Beynsdorp and the granddaughter of the rich collector Jacob Rauwert. She was born in 1606 and died on 8 July 1650. She was first betrothed (on 5 November 1632) to Willem Nooms, lord of Aarlanderveen (1605-1637). She remarried on 7 February 1644 with Jonker Cornelis van Isselt (IJssel), born in 1609, who died before 1667, living in Utrecht. After her death, he remarried with Agatha Cools, who, in turn remarried after his death, with Anthony van Wijckerslooth from Amsterdam (Elias, Vroedschap van Amsterdam, pp. LXXXIII and 431). It is likely that many of the paintings mentioned in the inventory, including those by Pieter Aertsen, came from her grandfather's collection. |
