IntroductionOp den 17 februaris zijn de naervolgende goederen achtergelaten bij Pieter Mercijs vercocht.
CommentaryPieter Mercijs was the son of the spices dealer Jacques Mercijs I who lived first in Rotterdam, later in Amsterdam, in De Swaen on the Hoogstraat and op 't Water. He was first married to Sara Berwijns (of INVNO 1181). After her death (in 1617), he remarried with Maria Florianus. On 27 April 1621, Pieter Mercijs, from Rotterdam, spices merchant, living op 't Water, was betrothed to Maria Florianus, 22, assisted by her father Isaaq Florianus (DTB 426/54). The widow of Pieter Mercijs, Maria Florianus, remarried with Pieter van de Venne, koopman, from Antwerp, on 31 October 1628. Maria Florianus was the daughter of Isaack Florianus, blockmacker and hosiery merchant (kousen verkoper), who lived op 't water as Pieter Mercijs did (Elias, Vroedschap, p. 397). Maria Florianus was a buyer at the present auction sale (R 30178 of Montias2). So was Jan Wijs (of R 25596 of Montias2), the son of Guilliam de Wijs (1552-1611), whose widow Sara Berwijns (of INVNO 1181) married Pieter Mercijs after De Wijs's death (24 February 1613). Pieter van de Venne (II) was apparently the son of Pieter van de Venne I, married to Clara van Haersbergen, who died in 1617 (for the sale of her possessions, sold in 1623, see INVNO 1074). Cornelia Merchijs (1614-1694), the daughter of Pieter Mercijs and Sara Berwijns, married Joannes Rijckaert (1609-1679), the brother of Susanna Rijckaert, who married Willem Selijns II of INVNO 1197.
