Commentary | Bredius was not able to identify the painter Jan Jansz. However, it should be noted that he appeared as a buyer in the auction of Crispijn Colijn in 1612, at which time he was living in the Blauw Lamb. A painter named Jan Jansz., married to S(t)ijn Jans, had his son Abraham baptized in the O.K. on 8 December 1619 in the presence of Anne Jansdr. (DTB 5/134). It is possible but by no means certain that this was the owner of the goods sold in the present sale. According to an entry in the present inventory (R 20918 of Montias2), Heere Jansz. was de vader van de vrou. In the NOTES to this entry, I show that this Heere Jansz. was probably the kistemacker (coffin maker, joiner) Heere Jansz. I, father of Heere Jansz. II, likewise kistemacker. Heere Jansz. I was thus the father-in-law of Jan Jansz., schilder. For additional information on Heere Jansz. I, kistemaecker, buyer at auction, see the NOTES to R 20918 of Montias2. It was apparently another Jan Janssen schilder who evaluated the goods left by Jan Loots on 8 July 1624 (GAA, NA, 562A) and who was a buyer at a sale in 1625 (R 32859). | |
