Commentary | On 1 January 1605, Jacques de Ville, from Uytrecht, caffatier, 25 years old, assisted by his mother Catalijne Baljuw (?), was betrothed to Sara de Fumau (she signs Freumou), from Cologne, 20, assisted by her uncles Hugue and David de Fremau (DTB 411/388). Jacques de Ville, dyer, was said to be 35 years old in an act of 4 August 1617. The guardian of his children named in the INTRO, also named Jacques de Ville, would then be the painter of that name (R 36770 of Montias2). He was probably a cousin of the dyer (for details on the family, see C. Flugi van Aspermont, De Amsterdamsche Schilders- en Blauwerverfamilie De Ville , Oud Holland, 17(1899), pp. 84-94.) The painter Barent Poelman (of R 24352), who was co-guardian of the children of the late owners of the goods sold, was married to Anna Vermou, who was perhaps the sister of Sara Vermou or Fumau. On 9 March 1628, Sara Fremau appeared before the Orphan Chamber on behalf of her seven children (the oldest Jan, 22, the youngest Sara, 5), whose father was Jacques de Ville, dyer, and declared that the children were entitled to 900 f. for their father's inheritance (WK 5073/789). The silk dyer Paul Fremau (or Frimau) (cited in the NOTES to R 33322 of Montias2) was probably related to the varous members of the Fremau family cited above. |
