Commentary | On 27 March 1603, Meijnert Meijnertsz., baker, and his wife Elrikgen Sacharijas, baptized a child named Sacharijas. The witnesses were Jannetgen and Anne Gerrits (DTB 4/610). It is not clear whether Meijnert in this baptism document is an error for Abraham or whether two individuals were involved (perhaps brothers). On 2 June 1617, the baker Abraham Meijersz., who is probably identical with Abraham Meijnertsz., bought half of the mill De Kraai from Neeltje Thonis, the widow of Lambert Wijnolts. Meijertsz. resold his half to Pauwels Carstensz. for 3,400 f. (Maandblad Amstelodamum 76(1989), p. 74). On Pauwels Carstensz., see also below the document of 14 May 1631. Before the present sale took place, an inventory was taken of the couple's possessions (between 3 and 10 July 1623) (INVNO 2025). This inventory was made under the supervision of Daniel Woutersz. of R 26574 of Montias2, the uncle of the children left by Abraham Meynertsz., and Daniel's wife Roberta (WK 5073/968). On 18 August 1623, the masters of the Orphan Chamber named Daniel Woutersz. and Hans van Cranen, witwercker (of R 26539 of Montias2), as guardians over the children left by Erckgen Sacharias, the widow of Abraham Meijndertsz., baker (WK 5073/513, fol. 12vo.) On 18 February 1628, Claes Claesz. Wouw, 30 years old, and Jacques Luls, 28, both master painters, declared at the request of Marytgen Willems that they had inspected the paintings bought from Abraham Meijndertsz. and vouched that the paintings were not worth more than 32 gulden. The paintings in question were seven in number, all unattributed, including een stuck van een schip geheel out ende vol gaeten, valued at 2 gulden, and een cleijn stucxken daer een schilder inne staet, also at 2 gulden (NA 396, Not. Jacob Jacobsz., film 202, fol. 144). (Abraham Meynertsz. may have been a part-time art dealer). On 14 May 1631, Daniel Woutersz. and Hans van Craenen had a notary insinuate Hilletje Dircx, living in Amsterdam. They pointed out that Abraham Meyndertsz. had left 400 f. to Paulus Carstensz., miller (NA 941, Not. Daniel Bredans). | |
