Commentary | On 5 October 1591, Lysbeth Cornelisdr., widow of Lambert Pietersz., with her guardian Rijckert Gerritsz. (Kieft), together with Wybrant Warwijck (of R 28840), sold a half of a house on the Warmoesstraet called Fonteyn des Levens to Willem Jansz. apothecary (Kam, Waar was dat huis in de Warmoesstraat?, p. 423, 37/18). On 9 May 1600, Ryckart Gerritsz. Kieft, 33 years old, assisted by his uncle Gerrit Slacht (?), was betrothed to Grietje Wijndries van Marken, assisted by Op Tatincks, her godmother (DTB 409/172). Grietje Wijndries (or Winricks) was the sister of Hendrick Winrixz. van Marcken, soap boiler op 't Water and captain of the burgerij in 1567 (Elias, Vroedschap, pp. 8-9) and of Lubbert van Marcken Windricks, merchant, who invested 1200 f. in the first subscription to V.O.C. shares (Van Dillen, Het oudste aandeelhoudersregister, p. 155). Ryckart Gerritsz. Kieft invested 2100 f. in the V.O.C. on behalf of Wijbrand Warwijck (1566-1615). He was the son of Gerrit Willemsz. Kieft (1571-1622) and of Machtelt Jansdr. Huydecoper (Elias, Vroedschap, p. 187) and the brother of Jan Gerritsz. Kieft of R 20503. On 25 and 27 March 1610, Cornelis Adriaensz. Ackersloot had a notary notify Ryckert Gerritsen Kieft, Pelgrum van Os (cited in R 26894 of Montias2), Hans Bouwer (of INVNO 537), and Adriaen van der Heyden that the directors of the V.O.C. had decided to give out a dividend in kind (macis and folie), which he, Cornelis Adriaensz. would now wish to have delivered to him (Van Dillen in Economisch-historisch Jaarboek 18(1930), p. 70). In 1615, Ryckert Gerritsz. Kieft and Symon Jansz. Vechtersz. (of R 29713 in Montias2) were appointed as guardians over the children of Bartelmeus Dirxsz. by the Orphan Chamber (WK 5073/513 fol. 153). The widow of Rijnck Kieft, living on the Cingel, who paid a tax of 30 f. in 1631, may be identical with the wife of Ryngkert Kieft (Kohier, fol. 113, p. 27). |
