IntroductionOp den 3e december anno 1621 zyn vercocht de naergelaten goederen van Hans van Rijckenroij schoenmaecker in zijn leven
CommentaryOn 13 June 1592, Hans van Rijckenroij, from Antwerp, shoemaker, 24 years old, assisted by his brotherin-law Hans Gysbrechtsz., was betrothed to Susanna Verbijst, from Antwerp, living on the N.Z. Voorburgwal, 27, assisted by her father Henrick Verbijst (DTB 406/193). Their son Abraham was baptized in the Oude Kerck on 21 April 1597 (witnesses Lysbeth Verbijst and Henrick Root) (DTB 3/73). Hans apparently remarried with Judith van Wolfaert. Their child Joannis was baptized in the N.K. on 10 July 1605 (DTB 39/70). On 11 June 1618, Hans van Rijckenoij, 50, shoemaker, and Willem Evertsz., 30, shoelapper, made a deposition at the request of Pieter van Noort from Leiden (NA 200, film 111, Not. J.F. Bruyning). Hans van Rijckenroij was buried on 13 October 1621 (DTB 1089A/29). On 10 December 1621, Jacques van Gere and Hans Sebrechts were appointed guardians over the minor children of Hans van Rijckenroy, shoemaker, by the Orphan Chamber (WK 5073/513, fol. 188). Earlier, on 16 March 1602, Lysbeth van Ryckenroy, 38, had been assisted by her neve Hans Sebrechtsz. when she was betrothed to Lambert van Bulderen of Deventer, 36 (DTB 410/46). Lysbeth van Ryckenroy was probably the sister of Hans van Rijckenroy. In addition to being a shoemaker, Hans van Rijckenroij was also (and perhaps primarily) a leather dealer. An auction of hides and other leather goods belonging to him were auctioned off by the Orphan Chamber on 5 December 1621. His presumed son Hans van Rijckenoij II was cited in a notarial act of 7 March 1650 (NA 1818, film 2083, Not. Eggericx).
