Commentary | Andries Jacobsz. Sael, capitain, and his wife Griete Bartels had their child Efje baptized on 16 September 1600 (DTB 38/824). The couple had another child baptized in the O.K., named Tijman, on 20 November 1605. The witness was Etgen Sybrantsdr. (DTB 4/145). Three of his children, who were buyers at their father's sale, were named Jacob, Barthout, and Jan (R 27227, R 27228, and R 27229 of Montias2). On 4 September 1620, Pieter Jacobsz. Zael brought 358 f. to the Orphan Chamber on behalf of the two minor children, Aefgen (Efje), 21, and Maritgen, 20, of Captain Andries Jacobsz. Sael whose late mother was Grietgen Bartouts (WK 5073/789). Pieter Jacobsz. Zael is presumed to have been Andries Jacob's brother. Another brother, named Dirck Jacobsz. Zael, was a lumber dealer. He paid a tax of 60 f., living near the Amstel, in 1631 (Kohier fol. 19, p.6). His death inventory was taken on 18 July 1632. He had died in a house on the Binnen Amstel called de swarte saal (NA 713, fol. 492, Not. P. Carels, film 5147). He was married to Diewertje Cornelis, who remarried with Jan Jacobsz. Neeff (probably of INVNO 502) (betrothal, 19 October 1634, DTB 443/91). The death inventory of Willem Jacobsz. Sael, another brother of the owner of the goods in this sale, was taken on 26 January 1630. He was married to Griet Jansdr. His house was on the Egelantiersgracht. He was said to be the uncle of Jan Andriesz., Jacob Andriesz., and Barthout Andriesz. Sael (NA 713, Not. P. Carels, film 5147). | |
