CommentaryOn 8 July 1593, Willem Hugenzoon, burgomaster of Rotterdam as freighter of a vlieboot along with some of his co-freigters agreed to send Doctor Augustinen Colenaer to mediate a dispute concerning the ship which had been sequestered (Winkelman, Bronnen voor de geschiedenis van het Oostzeehandel, R.G.P. 178(1981), p. 348.) On 17 August 1598, August de Colenaer was in London when he contributed a short poem in French and a dedication in Latin to Emanuel van Meteren's Album Amicorum ( Oud Holland 15(1897), p. 191). On 9 April 1604, Augustijn de Colenaer, from Antwerp, 38, der rechten doctor, assisted by his brother Pieter de Colenaer, was betrothed to Maria Simaij, 29, from Antwerp, living on the O.Z. Voorburgwal, assisted by her parents Geeraert Simay and Sara van Os (DTB 411/193). On 17 February 1608, they had their child Anna Maria baptized in the presence of Dirck van Os, who may have been Augustijn's brother-in-law (DTB 39/145). Augustijn de Colenaer invested 1200 f. in the original subscription to V.O.C. shares. His brother Pieter, who was one of the buyers at Augustijn's sale, was betrothed to Sara Pasquier from Antwerp on 20 September 1601 (DTB 420/29, Van Dillen, Het oudste aandeelhoudersregister, p.119). Weduwe Groenewegen was possibly the second wife of Augustijn de Colenaer. On 9 June 1628, when the death inventory of Pieter de Kolenaer, laeckenkoper, was taken, one of the debts due by the estate [for an amount left blank] was to the children left by Augustyn d'Kolenaer, advocaet (NA 713, film 5147). On 22 January 1622, Augustyn, Maria, and Laurens de Colenaer, children of the late Augustyn de Colenaer and of Maria Simeys, received certain assets, which had been accruing since 1611, from the estate of Dirck Simeij, their uncle (on their mother's side), on the basis of a court decision dated 20 March 1621 (NA 415, film 6432, Not. Jacob Jacobsz., the act copied in 1636). On 11 June 1599, Jacques Augustijnsz. de Keulenaer, who was presumably the son of Augustijn, received a procuration, issued by Steven de la Faille, to collect money for the issuant in Sweden (Winkelman, Bronnen voor de geschiedenis van het Oostzeehandel, R.G.P., 178(1981), p. 143.) On Augustijn de Colenaer II, who was presumably another son of Augustijn de Colenaer I, see INVNO 1113.
