IntroductionDen 20 Marty 1612 zyn ten versoeck van den herren weesmeesteren vercoft dese navolgende schilderyen [crossed out: achtergelaten] by Crispiaen Colijns.
CommentaryOn 15 February 1586, Christiaen (Crispiaen) Colijn, from Mechelen, became a citizen of Amsterdam (Obreen, Archief 2(1879-1880), p. 273). Crispiaen Colijn was born in 1547 and died in 1618. He was active as a printmaker in Amsterdam from 1582 to 1618. In 1592 he was summoned before the magistrates apparently for violating an ordinance on lotteries (Oud Holland, vol. 4 (1886), p. 191). On 31 July 1599, Crispiaen Colin, schilder, from Mechelen, widower of Elisabeth Engelbrechts, living in the Kalverstraet, was betrothed to Martyntje Gaullen, from Antwerp, widow of Jan van Loo. Both signed in a literate way (DTB 409/34). The present sale took place in the house of Jan Carel (de jonge), on the Dam. Carel, 1574-8 July 1620, was an important merchant (R 28890). In 1606, Martijntje Gauly, wife of Christiaen (sic) Colyn, painter, living in the Kalverstraet, bought lots in the Haarlem lottery for 1 f. 16 st. (GAA 5/13 F 32). p. 278). Crispiaen Colijn's daughter Tanneken (Janneken) married the painter Steven Anthony of R 28217 of Montias2, widow of Tobias Vrancx (Franck), cited in the Notes to R 28217, in 1604. Crispiaen's son David is the painter of R 21775 of Montias2.
