Commentary | On 3 July 1604, Guillame van Lochum, from Antwerp, tailor (kleermacker), 21 years old, was betrothed to Anneken van Hoof (DTB 411/255). Their child Bartholomeus was baptized in the Oude Kerck on 21 October 1607 in the presence of Henrick Verstraten and Fransijntjen van Lochom (Oud Holland 3(1885), p. 160). Hendrick Verstraten (of R 29681 of Montias2) was married to Grietje van Lochum, the sister of Guillame van Lochum, on 22 July 1595 (Oud Holland 3(1885), p.160). On 7 August 1613, the masters of the Orphan Chamber appointed Hans Jansz., silversmith (of R 21745 and INVNO 714) and Abraham (Jansz.) van Soest (I) as guardians over over the child of Anna van Hove, whose father was Guillame van Lichum, tailor. As in the INTRO above, Hans Jansz. was said to be the uncle of the child. He was probably the brother of Michiel Jansz., who in turn was said to be the uncle of Bartholomeus van Lochum of R 21745 of Montias2. From this it can be inferred that Guillame and Bartholomeus van Lochem were probably brothers. Van Soest, when he was appointed guardian, was said to be the child's neve. On 23 October 1615, Hans van Soest de jonge (Hans van Soest II) replaced his brother Abraham (Jansz.) van Soest as guardian (WK 5073/513). Abraham van Soest was a wealthy merchant on the Turfmarkt, whose widow paid a tax of 180 f. in 1631 (Kohier, fol. 167 vo., p. 29). | |
