Commentary	On 24 September 1587, Jan van Aken, wine dealer, and his wife Griet Ariens had their child Lijsbeth, baptized. The witness was Marten Spijs (Spil ?) (DTB 1/336). Marten Spil, who was also a wine dealer, was a buyer at R 31708. Another individual, also named Jan van Aken (perhaps his father) married Claerken van Solt (a close relative of Hans van Solt I of R 29281), widow of Ramaker, in Cologne in 1601 (De Navorscher 84(1935), p. 35). On 13 June 1635, notary Hoogeboom brought an obligation for 8,400 f. to the Orphan Chamber for the heirs of Hans van Solt I (of R 29281) in dato 6 April 1635, on behalf of Clara van Solt and Jan Ramaker ... as heirs of Pauwels van Solt, their grandfather (WK 5073/789). Pauwels van Solt was presumably one of the brothers of Hans van Solt I. Janneken Arents, who was probably the sister of Griet Ariens, bought lots for 18 st. in the Haarlem lottery of 1606, at which time she was living at the house of Jan van Aken daer Aken uijthangt (GAA, 5/19 F 33). An inventory of the goods of Griet Aerents, widow of Jan van Aken de oude, was taken on 24 January 1614, without evaluations (NA 527). Only two painting in this post-mortem inventory could be matched with one of the works of art sold two months later. One was a painting of the city of Cologne (R 38411 of Montias2), which sold for 3 f. 4 st.; the other was a painting of the 5 sinnen (R 29758), which sold for 2 f. 6 st. The other paintings, prints, and maps were untitled.
