Commentary | Anne Moerenturffs is probably identical with Tanneken Moerenturf, the mother of Valerius, Felix, Govert, and Alexander van der Hoeve (of R 20019, 31605, 22969, and 20896 of Montias2 resp.) (Tanneken van Moerenturf was married to Govert van der Hoeve (or Hove)). The fact that Felix van der Hoeve bought art at the present sale supports the presumption of the family relation. Jan Bara may be the engraver Johan Barra, the brother of the physician Jacobus Barra, who married Margarit Tulkschaep in 1621 (Oud Holland, 3(1885), p. 60). For a deposition of Dr. Jacobus Barra, see R 39404 of Montias2. The Moerenturff family was from Antwerp. Catharina Moerentorff, the widow of the engraver Theodore Galle, may also have been a relative of Anne Moerenturff (for her death inventory, see Duverger, Antwerpse inventarisse 4(1989), pp. 18-23). |
