Commentary | Sebastiaen Egbertsz., alias Sebastianus Egberti, was a professor of anatomy at the Atheneum Illustre in Amsterdam. He was a member of the Raed of Amsterdam from 1602 to 1618 and burgomaster in 1606 and 1608. He invested 900 f. in the first subscription for V.O.C. shares (Van Dillen, Het oudste aandeelhoudersregister, p. 200). He was removed from the Raed, due to his Remonstrant sympathies, by Prins Maurits on 3 November 1618. He was born in 1563 and buried on 16 April 1621. He married 1) on 20 July 1596 Agnieta Jacobs Benningh (born in 1561) and 2) on 13 August 1606 Margriete (alias Grietge) van Dronckelaer (1583-25 November 1624), daughter of Pelgrom Cornelisz. van Dronckelaer and Reymerich Jaspers Appelman (Elias, Vroedschap, p. 258). On 26 March 1625, Bartelemeus Reael was named guardian over the children left by Sebastiaen Egbertsz. by the Guardian Chamber (WK 5073/513, fol. 32). Sebastiaen Egbertsz. left an estate of 206,000 f.
