Commentary | Samuel Coenraets was a dealer in leather goods. On 13 March 1616, Samuel Coenraets, leercoper (leather merchant), registered a notarial complaint (insinuatie) against Roelof Jansz. (of INVNO 377), shoemaker, a headman of the shoemakers guild, concerning certain fines that Coenraets was supposed to pay to the guild to be admitted into it (Van Dillen, Bronnen tot de geschiedenis van het bedrijfsleven R.G.P., 78(1933), p. 147). The coopmanschappen in the inventory consisted of raw leather and leather goods, such as jerkins and muffs. Some of the leather was bought by out-of-town dealers. Samuel Coenradsen, from Middelburgh, tailor, 30 years old, was betrothed to Neeltje Goverts, from Antwerp, 32, assisted by her nichte Susanna Joris, on 3 March 1607 (DTB 666/160.) As widower of Susanna Goverts, he was again betrothed to Cathalijntje de Bock, assisted by her mother Anneken Bozyns, on 11 March 1608 (DTB 666/117). After his death, on 18 March 1626, Symon van der Boeckhorst, the uncle of his children (of R 32252), and Coenradt Jaspersz., the neve (probably cousin) of these children, were named by the Orphan Chamber as guardians over them (WK 5073/513, fol. 42). | |
