Commentary | The house called de Kraen in the Warmoesstraet was occupied by prominent individuals in the 16th century (Elias, Vroedschap, pp. 128, 181, 226.) On 11 November 1589, Lubbert Jansz., droochscheerder (cloth finisher), living on the O.Z. Voorburgwal, 25 years old, assisted by his mother Anne Hendricksdr., was betrothed to Rycklant Noye, from Hardewyck, assisted by her brother Gerart Noyen (DTB 405/213). On 10 December 1601, Lubbert Janssen, cloth dealer (lakenkoper), and his wife Ricklant Noeijen had their son baptized in the O.K. in the presence of Michiel Noijen (DTB 4/6). According to a notarial act of 4 May 1618, a dispute had arisen between Lubbert Janssen, assisted by his brother Hendrick Janssen, on one side, and Cornelis Pietersz., tinsmith (of R 36553 of Montias2), as husband and guardian of Grietgen Lubberts, and Franchoijs de Buijs (hose merchant), as husband and guardian of Aeltgen Lubberts, assisted by Jan Noije (of R 36562 of Montias2), the uncle and guardian of the children of the afore-said Lubbert Jansz., on the other, concerning the testament of Lubbert Janssen and his late wife Rycklant Noijen and the goods left by Rycklant Noijen. In 1617, it had been decided to submit the dispute to Dominicus van Heemskerck, a member of the Amsterdam Vroedschap, and Floris Claessen Cloeck (of R 29575), as arbiters. After prolonged deliberation, the arbiters had decided that the testament of Lubbert Jansz. would be null and void and that 48 f. would be paid to Cornelis Pietersz., the brother-of-law of Lubbert Jansz., for the pension (montkosten) of the two children who had apparently been apprenticed to him (NA 200, film 111, Not. J.F. Bruyning). After the death of his wife, probably shortly before the date of this inventory, Lubbert Jansz. attempted to sell de Kraen at auction on 29 January 1619 but it did not sell (held up at 5,400 f.) (J.G. Kam, Waar was dat huis in de Warmoesstraat? 1968, p. 34/14.) On 6 December 1622, the Orphan Chamber appointed Cornelis Pietersz., tinsmith, and Arnoldus van der Vorst (or Voort ? of R 37013) as guardians over the children of Lubbert Jansz. and Rijckland Nooyen (WK 5073/513, fol. 8). Lubbert Jansz. remarried with Maijke Wouters on 1 May 1626 (DTB 765/5). |
