ResidenceIn de Warmoesstraet in Amsterdam
IntroductionOp den 23e december 1625 sijn ten versoecke van Hendrick and Willem Kemp vercoft dese naervolgende goederen.
CommentaryHendrick Barentsz. Kemp and Willem Anthonijs Kemp were both from 'S Hertogenbosch. Hendrick Barentsz., 39 (19 ?), was betrothed to Catharina Juliaens , from Cologne, on 24 January 1619. She was assisted by her parents Joost Juliaensz. and Catarina Laurens (DTB 423/142). Hendrick Barentsz. Kemp, living in the Warmoesstraet, paid a tax of 60 f. in 1631 (Kohier, fol. 106vo., p. 25). He was also a buyer at auction (e.g. R 38065). For a document concerning the delivery of wine in which he appeared (at which time he seemed to be living the house of Dirck Bontius, dealer in spices), see the NOTES to R 38065 of Montias2. On 10 January 1604, Willem Anthonijs Kemp, assisted by his parents Anthonij Kemp and Mayken Jan Willemsdr., 22 years old, having living 3 years on the Warmoesstraet, was betrothed to Janneken de Clerck Mattheusdr., 21, assisted by her petemoeye Maritgen Wouters (DTB 411/123). On 8 December 1618, Zeger Pietersz. Crab named procureur Boon to defend him against Willem Kemp, wine dealer (NA 381, fol. 544). He signed the Remonstrant petition of 1628. The anonymous owner of the goods sold may have been a diamond cutter, as the sale of a diamant slippers meulen on 29 December (bought by Alexander Colpijn over de Bank van Lening) for 20 f. 10 st. suggests. It is not clear whether Hendrick Barentsz. Kemp is identical with Hendrick Barentsz. wine distributor (wijnverlater), who was said to be 37 in a document dated 25 February 1636. If he is so identical, then he must have been 19 and not 39 at the time of his betrothal (NA 414A, fol. 166). On 25 May 1635, Adriaen Spierincx, boremacker (probably a borer of wells), claimed that he was owed 337 f. by Barent Kemp, wine dealer, living in Zwolle (NA 843, Not. Hoogeboom). On 9 February 1637, Hendrick Barentsz. Kemp, mr. wijnverlater, drew up a procuration to collect money in Goor (NA 415, film 6432).
