Commentary | The assets of Captain Daij and of Oopie Copit (Coppit or Capit) were recorded in another inventory (NA 2729, film 2709, Not. J. Leuven). The house was valued at 5,500 f. Together with various other assets, the total came to 15,150 f. Volgens die inventaris verdeelt ende is vercocht door den afslager: 1,770 f. 16 st. ende noch 615 f. 17 st. Oopie Copit heeft behouden de weder helft 1,770 f. So that the movable goods are valued in total at 4,157 f. 10 st., half of which was sold and half kept by Oopje Copit. Among the goods that apparently were not recorded in the present inventory: een schilderij van Josep ende Maria door Rembrandt, two pearl earrings, and a diamond ring. Marten Daey, born in Breda in 1604, fought in Brasil from 1629 to 1641. He was first married to Machtelt van Doorn and, second, on 9 June 1633, with Oopje Coppit, widow of Marten Soolmans (II), the daughter of Hendrick Coppit (1577-1635) and Celijtgen (Silleken) Princen (1584-1639) (Elias, Vroedschap van Amsterdam, p.189). Hendrick Coppit was the son of Jacob Pietersz. Coppit (Elias, ibid.) Oopje Coppit was taxed on the basis of assets estimated at 12,000 f., including 6,000 f. for her house, in 1674. On Marten Soolmans II, see the NOTES to R 27398 of Montias2. The children were Pieter Daey, born in Brasil, died in St. Helena in 1673, married Margaretha Hakkius; Josephat Daey, baptized in Maartensdijk in March 1643; Catharina Maria Daey, baptized 15 August 1643, married Hermann Folkers on 20 March 1666 and, after his death, Pieter Eybels; and Hendrick Daey, born in Amsterdam on 1 January 1651, became bailli and reeve of Zijp (1692), died on 11 January 1712. He married his full niece Anna Heykens, who was born in Alkmaar on 15 March 1645 and died there on 23 August 1682. ' | |
