historical notes John Pierpont Morgan was an American financier and art collector.

Morgan collected art objects in virtually every medium, including the rare books, manuscripts, drawings, prints, and ancient artifacts.

During the last two decades of his life—from the 1890s until 1913—Morgan spent some $60 million on art, about $900 million today (9/07/2007, http://www.themorgan.org/about/history.asp).

Morgan lent the following art work to the Hudson-Fulton Celebration, 1909:
Landscape with Figures and Cattle - Aelbert Cuyp
