collector, patron of the arts, philanthropist, lawyer, financier, and founder of the Taft Museum of Art, publisher, and owner of the Cincinnati Times Star.
Taft owned work by Corot, Millet, Meissonier, Rembrandt, Gainsboroght, Frank Duveneck, van Dyck, Hals, Steen, Hobbema, Goya, Reynolds, and Rousseau in addition to a collection of Chinese porcelains.
The Tafts gave 690 works from their home and private collections to Cincinnati Art Institute in 1927.
After extensive remodeling and updating, the Baum-Longworth-Taft House opened as the Taft Museum in 1932.
