historical notes William Church Osborn was a lawyer, art collector,the eighth president of the Metropolitan art Museum, Princeton University life trustee, philanthropist, and chairman of the Democratic State Committee.

Osborn collected Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, and American art of the 1800's and 1900's. His collection included work by Monet, Gauguin and Manet.
