Morgan, Edwin D. Morgan served as governor of New York from 1858 until 1862. He was elected a United States Senator from New York and served from 1863 until 1869. According to his obituary, he was a "liberal patron of art" and collected 250 oil paintings including "an Intrigue" by Vannutelli, "Reverie" by Firmin Giard, Washerwoman on the Coast of Brittany by Jules Breton, "A Storm" by Achenbach, "A Happy Wife" By Bouguereau", "The wedding eve" by Dieffenbach, "The Coming Storm" by Voltz and "The Jolly Musicians" by Madon.
