historical notes Nathan Wildenstein founded Wildenstein & Cie in 1875, and specialized in French paintings, drawings and sculpture of the eighteenth century.

In 1903, Nathan, Earnest and René Gimpel opened E. Gimpel & Wildenstein in New York City (1903-1933). The gallery became Wildenstein & Company in 1933.

In January of 2014, the Wildenstein family sold it's East 64th Street headquarters to the government of Qatar.
