According to his New York Times obituary, he collected works by Childe Hassam, J. Alden Wier, Lillian Genth, George Inness, and Ballard Williams.

According to the American Art Annual, Mr. Evans received visitors interested in art to his collection on Sundays from November 1st - May 1st, between the hours of 2:30 and 5:30 p.m (Volume 1, 1899, pg. 232).
