historical notes Daughter of the Cincinnati industrialist and philanthropist, Henry Hanna (1812–1905), Mary was an art collector, patron and philanthropist.

Hanna gifted (1946) and left (1956) a significant portion of her art collection to the Cincinnati Art Museum and aided in the financing of the Hanna Wing (1928).

Mary Hanna’s collection included work by, among others, Jean-Honoré Fragonard, John Hopner, Aelbert Cuyp, School of Canaletto, Raeburn, Thomas Gainsborough, William Ward, Aert van der Neer, Meindert Hobbema, Franciscon Zurbarán, Adriaen van Ostade, Anthony Van Dyck, J. M. W. Turner, Mary Cassat, and Auguste Renoir.
