Samuel Untermyer was an New York art collector, philanthropist, lawyer and botanist.
Art property and furnishings from Untermyer's Yonkers estate, Greystone, and New York City residence, 927 Fifth Avenue, were auctioned in 1940 via Parke-Bernet Galleries, Inc.
The May 11, 1940 sale consisted of sixty paintings, tapestries, and Decorative arts including Gothic and Renaissance furniture, Oriental rugs, Greek and Roman art objects (marble sculpture, terracotta, amphorae, kraters and kylix).
The remainder of the collection comprising over 1,000 lots was sold May, 15th, 16th and 17th, 1940 and included French and English Furniture, tapestries, Chinese porcelains, china and glass, silver, and oil paintings.
