Thomas Handasyd Perkins (1764-1854) was one of Boston's most successful China merchants (Perkins was involved in the slave, tea, and spices trade).

Perkins served as Massachusetts state senator and representative from 1805-1817.

Perkins is mentioned in Lillian B. Miller's book "Patrons and Patriotism: The Encouragement of the Fine Arts in the United States 1790-1860."

in 1788, Perkins married Sarah "Sally" Elliott (1768-1852). He had three children: Colonel Thomas Handasyd Perkins, Jr.; Elizabeth Perkins Cabot (1791-1885); and Caroline Perkins Gardiner (1800-1867).
