Crowninshield's collection consisted of canvases, water-colors, drawings, prints and sculpture by, mainly French Modernists, including work by Andre Dunoyer de Segonza, Rouault (prints), Picasso, Jules Pascin, Derain, Covarrubias, Chagall, Marie Laurencin and (presented by pieces of sculpture) Despiau, Degas, Maillol, Charlot, Dufy, Forain, Gromaire, Kisling, Matisse, Modigliani, Bonnard, Braque, Renoir, Redon, Henri Rousseau, Vuillard, and Toulouse-Lautrec.

Crowninshield belonged to the Dutch Treat, the Knickerbocker, the Coffee Club and the Links Club on Long Island.
