De Peyster, Frederic, 1796-1882 print view role Collector dates 1796-1882 city New York City state NY sex M historical notes Frederic De Peyster (1796-1882) was a New York lawyer, graduate of Columbia College, art and rare book collector, president of the New-York Historical Society (1864-67, 1875-1882) and the New York Society Library. De Peyster was married to Mary Justina, the daughter of Hon. John Watts. De Peyster’s collection included sculpture and painting by, among others, Thomas Crawford, Paul L'Ouvrier, G. Gerhard, and Charles Wilson Peale.
