historical notes Andrew Carnegie was a collector, Scottish industrialist, businessman, a major philanthropist, and the founder of Pittsburgh's Carnegie Steel Company which later became U.S. Steel.

Carnegie married Louise Whitfield (1857-1946) in 1887, and had one daughter, Margaret Carnegie Miller, who was born in 1897.
