historical notes David Croal Thomson was director of Goupil Gallery, London, and also partner in the firms of Thos. Agnew & Sons, the French Gallery, and Barbizon House, which he partnered with his son Lockett Thomson. In his capacity as a dealer as well as a critic and editor for the Year’s Art the Art Journal, he was in regular contact with leading artists, dealers, and art historians.
