John Powers was a collector, businessman, and former president of the publishing company Prentice-Hall.
He and his wife, Kimiko, collected both Contemporary and Japanese art. Their collection included Haboku (broken ink), Buddhist art, Zen painting, literati painting of eighteenth century Japan, work by Andy Warhol, Willem de Kooning, Jasper Johns, Claes Oldenburg, and Roy Lichtenstein.
