historical notes Elsie de Wolfe, née Ella Anderson de Wolfe and aka Lady Mendl or Elsie de Wolfe Mendl, was an art collector, interior designer, actress and socialite.

As well as jewelry, De Wolfe collected the fine and decorative arts. According to the Catalogue of Loan Exhibitions of Portraits of the Art Institute and Exhibition Committee of the Municipal Art League of Chicago from 1905, De Wolfe lent her Giovanni Boldini portrait of herself to the exhibition.
