John Stoughton Newberry was a collector, author, curator, and philanthropist
Newberry's collection included watercolors, drawings and sculpture by Klee, Stuart Davis, Modigliani, Balthus, Grosz, Franz Mar, Picasso, Redon, Rohlfs, Tchelichew, and others. He contributed works of art to the Fogg Museum, Detroit Institute of Arts, and the Museum of Modern Art.
Newberry was a member of the Grolier Club in New York and the Scarab Club in Detroit.
