Collector, businesswoman, investor, philanthropist, and the head of an hotelier family.
Mrs. Sharp began collecting works by masters of the School of Paris in the 1960's. Her collection held works by Picasso, Modigliani, Matisse and Braque. Some of the paintings she owned include:
Modigliani's ''Reclining Nude With Raised Arms'' (1917-1918)
Vlaminck's ''Under the Bridge at Bezons''
Matisse's ''Still Life With Three Vases'' (1933)
Picasso’s ''Reclining Nude With a Necklace'' (1932) and ''Spring at Boisgeloup,'
She exhibited her collection at the Guggenheim Museum in 1978. Later she and her son, Peter Jay Sharp, a developer and owner of the Carlyle, donated the Sharp Gallery in the Metropolitan's 20th-century wing.
In 1952, she endowed the Evelyn Sharp Foundation, which benefits the arts.
