Cornelius J. Sullivan was an art collector, patron, lawyer, and member of the New York Board of Education.
He and his wife, nee Mary Josephine Quinn, formed a collection of American and European Modern art and Irish antiques.
A fair amount of Sullivan's collection was sold in a two day sale in 1937 via the American Art Association Anderson Galleries, Inc.
The sale included work by, among others, Cézanne, Seurat, Gauguin, Picasso, Modigliani, Davies, Rivera, and Daumier, Soutine, Rouault, Derain, Redon, Utrillo, Dufy and Demuth.
