Mary Quinn Sullivan, nee Mary Josephine Quinn, was an art collector, dealer and a founding trustee of the Museum of Modern Art.
Together with her husband, Cornelius J Sullivan, she formed a collection of American and European art, and Irish antiquities. Their collection included work by, among others, Cézanne, van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec, Gauguin, Picasso, Derain, Modigliani, Seurat, Picasso, Davies, Rivera, Daumier, Soutine, Rouault, Derain, Redon, Utrillo, Dufy and Demuth.
Her husband died in 1932, and Sullivan sold a portion of their collection at Anderson Galleries in April of 1937. The same year that her husband died, Sullivan opened a gallery on E. 56th St. in New York City which later moved to a space in Lois Shaw's gallery on Park Avenue.
In late 1939 Sullivan consigned work from her collection for auction at Parke-Bernet. She died in Astoria, Queens on the night before the two-night sale (Dec. 6 & 7, 1939).
