historical notes Evelyn Fortune Bartlett was an artist, art collector and patron. She was the daughter of Indianapolis publisher William Fortune (1863–1942) and married Eli Lilly (1885–1977) in 1927. She later married Frederic Clay Bartlett (1873–1953) of Massachusetts in 1931.

The marriage to her third husband, Daniel Huger,ended in divorce in 1969.
