In 1940 Hans Cramer took over the firm and ran it for more than half a century. Hans Cramer studied at the RKD, the Netherlands Institute for art history in The Hague. He was head of the study-room for Dutch and Flemish Old Masters and, wrote a great number of articles for the Dutch Encyclopaedia Winkler Prins and later for the Winkler Prins of the Art. Apart from old master paintings Mr. Cramer is also interested in French 18th century colour-prints and Italian Renaissance bronzes. He was, forty years ago, the first dealer who did not want to make use of bank credit, and instead but persuaded collectors to give him the works of art they wished to dispose of on consignment. As a result he offered the collections van Aalst, ten Cate, van den Bergh and Becker among many others, and six Rembrandts went through his hands within a very short period. His contacts with great collectors in Europe and America, - as Heini Thyssen, Ed.
