historical notes Michael H. Steinhardt is an art collector, financier, founder of Steinhardt Partners, avid gardener and philanthropist.

Steinhardt and his wife, Judy, collect decorative arts, antiquities, Asian, modern, and contemporary art. The Steindhardt collection includes work by, amon others, Paul Klee, Jackson Pollock, and Pablo Picasso.

Among other items, the Steinhardt's have collected Peruvian feathered textiles, Neolithic masks from the Judean valley and a Cycladic marble (sold at Christie's for $16.8 million in December of 2010).

In addition to serving on Christie’s American Advisory Board, Steinhardt is the chairman of the investment firm WisdomTree, The Steinhardt Foundation for Jewish life (formerly Jewish Life Network) and Taglit-Birthright Israel.

The Steinhardt’s were contributed greatly to the building of the Steinhardt Conservancy and have been active with the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens since 1986.
