May was a member of the Metropolitan and Commercial Clubs of Washington, and the New York Yacht Club.
May collected Japanese prints, lacquers, swords and sword guards, rare pottery, curios and other Japanese and Chinese objects.
May's collection was sold via the American Art Galleries in May, 1918.
