historical notes Siegfried Kramarsky was a German-born banker, art collector, and philanthropist. His collection was exhibited at The Metropolitan Museum of art and included, among others, Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Cezanne, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Georges Seurat, and Paul Gauguin.

A Vincent Van Gogh's Portrait of Dr. Gachet, 1890, once owned by Kramarsky's, was sold by his heirs in 1990, at an auction for $82.5 million to the Japanese businessman, Ryoei Saito (1916-1996).

Kramarsky was active in Jewish communal affairs, a member of the board of trustees of Beth Israel Hospital, a supporter of Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel and campaigns of the United Jewish Appeal.

Kramarsky's wife, Violet "Lola" Ingeborg (Popper) Kramarsky, was president of Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America. The couple had one daughter, Sonia (later Binkhorft), and two sons, Bernard and Werner.
