historical notes Son of Charles S Carstairs, Carroll Carstairs was a legacy art dealer. In 1928, Carroll Carstairs, Charles R. Henschel, Charles Carstairs, and Cayman H. Messmore purchased M Knoedler & Co, Inc.

In 1934 he left the firm and started his own art gallery.

Carroll Carstairs was married in 1924 to Miss Susan Burks Yuille (1901-1978). He died in 1948; records of the gallery were destroyed.
