He and his wife, Eugenia “Genia” (1900–1988), first formed a collection of antiquities, chalices, cups, tankards, tapestries, Gothic chests, and inlaid Spanish traveling trunks. The Zadok’s became interested in Modern/Contemporary art in 1940, after a controversy surrounding a “ferociously distorted” Picasso painting on display at the Milwaukee Art Institute. The Zadok’s collected artwork while traveling in Europe and Latin America. Their collection included work by, among others, André Derain, Joan Miró, Pierre Bonnard, Fernand Léger, Rufino Tamayo, Raoul Dufy, Wassily Kandinsky, Marc Chagall, Robert Delaunay, André Derain, Pablo Picasso, Marcel Gromaire, Gérard Schneider, Jean Bazaine, Massimo Campigli, Ottone Rosai, Giorgio Morandi, and Mario Sironi. An exhibition of their collection was shown at the Arts Club of Chicago from May 1–June 6, 1952 (School of Paris at Mid-Century: A Selection of Modern Paintings from the Collection of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Zadok), at the Milwaulkee Art Institute in 1956. Zadok was a charter member of both the Museum of Modern Art's International Council and the Robert Lehman Art Foundation and Trust. After Mr. Lehman's death, Zadok supervised the installation of his art collection at the Metropolitan Museum. Part of their art collection sold at Sotheby’s London in 1965 for 232,010 British Pounds.
