historical notes Alfred Curry Glassell Jr. was an art collector, philanthropist and the founder of the Transcontinental Gas Pipeline Corporation (Transco Energy Company).

Focusing on works of gold, Glassell collected Asian, Pre-Columbian, and African art.

Glassell was Chairman Emeritus and a Life Trustee of the MFAH and was the driving force in the founding of the Glassell School of Art, the museum's teaching wing, and in 1997 he donated his collection of African gold to the museum.
