Willard Dickerman Straight was an investment banker who, in 1911, married Dorothy Payne Whitney Straight (1887- 1968).
Together in 1914, the couple, in partnership with Herbert Corly, began The New Republic magazine.
Their elder two children were Whitney, who became a race-car driver and head of British Overseas Airway Corporation, and Beatrice, who became a distinguished actress.
Straight collected French graphic art relating to World War I.
