Jean Leon Gerome Ferris was a collector and American Historical painter.
Ferris was the son of portrait painter Stephen James Ferris (1835-1915) and he inherited his father’s art collection. J L G Ferris was named after one his father’s most admired artists, Jean-Léon Gérôme (1824-1904).
Stephen James Ferris’s art collection was given to the Smithsonian (National Museum of American History) by J. L. G. Ferris’s family, between 1927 and 1932.
