John (Jack) Jay Ide was an art collector and aviation pioneer.
Together with his wife, Dora Browning Donner Ide (1916–1998), he formed a collection which included work by, among others, Edgar Degas (1834–1917), André Giroux (1801–1879), Alexandre Jakovlev (1887–1938), Jean-Baptiste Oudry (1724–1806), Jules Coignet (1798–1860), Jean-Baptiste Perronneau (ca. 1715–1783), Pierre-Joseph Redouté (1759–1840), Jean-Antoine Watteau (1684–1721), William Wyld (1806–1889), Aubrey Beardsley (1872–1898), Hubert Robert, French, (1733–1808), and Romain Cazes (1810–1881).
Paintings, prints, drawings, and rare books from the Ide Collection were given to museums across the country including, among others, the De Young Museum in San Francisco, the Cooper Hewitt in New York City, the Morgan Library & Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D C, The Frick Collection & Frick Art Reference Library.
