historical notes Joyce Alexander Wein was a biochemist, businesswoman, and philanthropist and, together with her husband, George Wein, collected Black American art.

Joyce founded of the New York Coalition of 100 Black Women; established the Joyce and George Wein Professorship Fund in African-American Studies at Boston University and the Alexander Family Endowed Scholarship Fund at Simmons College; and served on the Board of the Studio Museum in Harlem for ten years.
