Sid Richardson was a businessman (Texas oilman), cattleman, horse breeder (raised Quarter horses and Santa Gertrudis cattle), and collector of Western Art.
Richardson's collection included work by Frederic Remington, Charles Russell, Gilbert Gaul, Peter Moran, and Charles F. Browne, Charles Schreyvogel, Oscar E. Berninghaus, Frank Tenney Johnson, William R. Leigh and Edwin W. Deming.
The Sid Richardson Art Museum opened to the public in 1982 underwent a yearlong renovation and reopened in 2006.
